JUST A THOUGH - IF THEISTIC RELIGION WAS NOT TOO BIG BE..PART 3.

If we were to compare some industrial and commercial and economic scams with the unproven and likely unethical scam with religions or aspects of them really are, religions would not be being allowed to service its followers and others as poorly as it is currently doing. 

It would not be being allowed to be taking so much for granted, and would be required to demonstrate that it was delivering good value for money and the belief which it is demanding and which is being invested into it.

I can understand how theistic religions can get away fraudulently with so much in Islamic countries, where the religious elite has great influence over the government. 

However, it is less comprehensible why, in western secular societies, religions are being accorded this privileged position of not being morally, legally and intellectually accorded other important aspects of our lives.

Is it that religion is too big to be allowed to be robustly questioned and analysed to ascertain its origins, purpose and validity? Or is it that it has become a useful and effective tool of the ruling elites, as it had been in its early evolutionary stages?

I suspect that that theistic religions have become both. They are 'too powerful' to fail or change their course. It really does not matter anymore that more people no longer believe that any sentient god exists. 

Theistic religions have had hundreds of years to sow the seed of belief and fear into the hearts of humans, that such a god exists. That belief have now taken a firm hold of hundreds of millions of people. The religious elites or hierarchies are threatened by any attempt to increase the 'humanisation' of their religions. 

Whether it is about admitting women to the clergy, or accepting the reality that some people have a 'natural' preference to have same-sex relationships. The religious orthodoxy does not want to examine itself and its faith too closely, in case it is forced to accept the unsubstantiated false premise on which it is based. And the whole institution crumbles.

People who might have doubts that god exists, but whose fear of retribution by him or of having 'paradise' denied them, will not allow them to have the courage to admit to the unlikelihood of the existence of a sentient god.
