BRITAIN'S PRIME MINISTER TO SCOTLAND - WE ARE LEAVING THE EU, BUT YOU MUST REMAIN WITH THE UK! PART 2.

BRITAIN'S PRIME MINISTER WANTS OUT OF THE EU BUT IS INSISTING THAT SCOTLAND REMAINS PART OF THE UK. IRONIC OR ILLOGICAL?
This might be the 'concept' of the perverted 'first past the post 'democratic system' of deciding electoral decisions, in countries such as the United Kingdom, but its validity and legitimacy is very questionable.

If the outcome of the United Kingdom's referendum on the European Union, is to be interpreted as 'being the will of the British people', and used as the rationale for Britain leaving the EU.

Then, it is difficult for the people of Scotland, the 62 percent of the electorate who voted to remain in the EU, not have that 'decision' accepted as being 'the will of the Scottish people'.

However imperfect that categorisation might appear, when we take into account the wishes and rights of the other 38 percent who did not vote to remain.

As I have argued on other occasions, it is difficult to respect the argument of the British government, that it is simply carrying out 'the will of the British people', in setting in motion the machinery to leave the European Union.

It is nothing short of a sign of weakness; of dereliction of duty, if you like.

A renunciation of the responsibility to lead and offer guidance, and not to be led by 'the tail', as it were.

It is not just about the means by which the decision to leave the European Union was made, which is of major importance in this matter.

It is also about what were and are the probable objectives of the majority of the United Kingdom's electorate which voted to leave the European Union.

It is about the 'legitimacy', morally and legally, of the objectives they or many of them aspire to achieve. As well as means by which they intend to attempt to achieve them.

If, for example, racism and xenophobia, a wish to turn Britain's back on the increasingly desperate plight of millions of poor people around the world, are among the objectives of the Brexiteers.

Is it to be taken that these things have now 'become the will of the people of Britain', with all that implies for what has become of the British?

For example, that the British are now more insular, less tolerant, more selfish and racist; that when they cannot have their own way, then now no longer 'want to play the game'?

Is it any wonder that the 48 per cent who wants to remain a part of the European Union and world to make it a better, more representative and efficient Union, is up in arms?

That they do not want to be forcefully taken hostage to fate and the unknown, along with the 52 percent of Brexiteers?

To be continued.
