However, before it can do so and set in motion a new dawn of enlightenment and progress for these regions.  

 They must also effectively meet and defeat the challenge of the destructive religious and redundant cultural forces which have invested heavily in holding back the forces of enlightenment and progress. 

 The forces which would seek to benefit from keeping the masses ignorant of all knowledge but the verses of The Quran, and outdated customs. 

 And are using The Quran as both a yoke around the necks and intellect of the faithful and forced converts. 

As well as a sword with which to make war on those who wish to like like the free men, women and children they are.

 Succeeding in this second challenge will not be an easy one for the countries of Africa, as we are seeing from the experience of Nigeria, Niger, Mali, Chad, Cameroon, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, et al. 

 It is a formidable struggle which is going to take competent leadership, great discipline and collective cooperation among all or most of the countries of Africa. 

It is a struggle whose success will be assisted by the success of the increases industrialisation of Africa. And the establishment and maintenance of strong good governance and  civil societies, based on secularism and respect for the mutually shared personal freedoms and rights of the individual. 

 Religious bigotry is able to prosper better in situations and societies where ignorance and stagnant traditions and customs are seen as virtues. 

 And enlightenment is perceived as a threat to their survival and the power of the backward elites who guard them. 

This is a situation which is no different from the the self-imposed protectors of 'the founding fathers of the American Constitution', than it is for the all religions. 

 The difference being that some religions are making great efforts to transcend the darkness of the anachronistic bases on which they are built and preserved. 

 While the more extremist versions of others are holding onto those bases like clams or rottweilers.
