CONTEMPLATIVE MOODS - IF LIFE IS A B..... THEN CHECK OUT SOME CLASSICAL MUSIC BEFORE YOU DIE!

So, if life were a bitch and then we die, need we say or do or think anymore of the matter?

If life were a bitch and then we die, might we not surmise that it be our duty to screw life before we die, that we might gain some small pleasure, some small satisfaction from our life the life we live, before we die?

But of course, some of us might as some point, consider that it is life which screws the living and not the living who does the screwing.

And, in the knowledge that the term screwing can have an ambivalent meaning, in that it can mean participating in an event from which we derive pleasure, as well as being used as a pejorative term of abuse.  So it is that life and living can be both pleasurable and miserable to us who are required to endure it. To live it, to savour it.

And so it is that I wish to comment on the beauty of music, with which we can fill many moments of our lives and our living with.

Music, said the song, is the food of love. Yet, we need not assume or imagine that such love might be the love that a lover has for his/her love.

But rather the love that a child, an adult, a woman or man, might feel for the peaceful and serene inner world which lovely music takes them to.

Now, I know that there are many kinds of music. Music which is born of sorrow and despair, out of hardship.

Yes, probably the music which is born of people subjected to slavery and/or terrible exploitation.

Blues music, Soul music, country and western music, Reggae music, Asian, Russian, Chines music, Native American music, Mongolian music, et al.

Wherever we look in the cultures of humans, we will find music, because, just as how the body cannot live without food and water. So it seems that a health human cannot truly live without the vibrations of soothing and transcendental music.

Now, I am aware that our affinity for various kinds of music can be culturally predisposed. Yet, do I find myself contemplating whether anybody can ever really live without listening to the classical music of the European master composers and the orchestras which bring their creations to life?

Beethoven, Bach, Handel, Schubert, brahms, Chopin, Wagner, Mahler, Haydn, Elgar, Verdi, Vivaldi, and others.

Listen to all the Reggae music, to all of the Soul, Blues, Pop and Country and Western music that you can find.  But, not to move on, to evolve into listening to and enjoying lovely classical music, is nothing short of self-neglect, musically.

It is a sign of stagnation, of failure to thrive in terms of ones musical appreciation and maturity.

So, even if it really is the case that life and living is a bitch and then you die, please do all you can to acquire and listen to some beautiful classical music, before you die. Each of us humans owe that to ourselves, before death screws us all.
