FRANCE'S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION - FOR BETTER OR WORSE OR BOTH? PART 2.

As is to be expected of 'liberal democracies', the French, much more than the Americans and the British, have more options from which to make their choice of President.

The have Marine Le Pen of the purported 'extreme Right', the leader of the Front Nationale. 

The have Francois Fillon, the battling but apparently still solvent Rightist candidate. 

The have Emmanuel Macron, the 'centrist.' And Jean-Luc Melenchon of the Left. 

These are only the 4 main contenders of the many candidates who are promising the French people that they are the chosen ones who can make, not only 'le difference.' 

But the difference which the people of France have been yearning for, probably since before the Revolution of 1789.

And, as it is not difficult to fool most of the people most of the time, these debonair candidates are, as the political specie tends to do, irrespective of which country they are in. swan about the country. 

Endeavouring to appear as if their political clothes are not as transparent, flimsy, and superficial as they have always been.

Have we not just been reminded of that, by the performance of Francois Hollande? 

Who, no sooner was he elected to power, than he hastily discarded his 'socialist' costume and darted across the political floor to join the ruling international rightists.

But, hold on a minute. That might well be the case. But 'we the people', the fodder on which the elites of the political classes feed during the election season. 

We the electorate which they tend to treat with such contempt, after they have floated into office on our votes. 

Are not allowed to become too despondent, to complacent and alienated from the electoral process. 

From doing 'our democratic duty', by voting and giving 'democratic legitimacy' to those who seek to rule over us.

Politics might well have become a cesspool of lies, deceit, deception, demagoguery, and of promises which were not intended or could not be kept.
