JUST PHILOSOPHISING - THE BURKA AND THE WEST: NO CONCESSION? PART 4..

It has been said, that you can remove a people or a person from an undesirable situation, but you cannot remove the imagery of the undesirable situation which they take with them.

 This paradox is one which can pose great danger for both the immigrant and for the host country which he/she intends to adopt as their new home. 

 Because, not only will the immigrant has a tendency to bring what is good about the things which have formed their identities, but also things which are not desirable. 

And are likely to, if not guarded against, recreate atleast some of the undesirable situation and conditions which they are escaping from.

 Thus the immigrant needs to be vigilant in not deliberately or unintentionally recreating his/her country of origin in their 'new home country.' 

 To do so place them at risk of  going backward, instead of forward. 

 Which then raises the question: why did you come to this country, if you do not want to flow with and become a part of it?


 Instead of recreating your former home in it or transform it into your former home? 

 It is partly about the difficulty people experience in letting go of the past and moving on. 

 It is not something which should be encouraged, but it should be understood and addressed sensitively. 

 All people moving to 'foreign countries', whether as colonialist or legal immigrants, have a tendency to recreate the conditions which which they are moving or fleeing from, in their 'new home.' 

We have see this all over the world. The British, Portuguese, Dutch, Belgians, Spanish, Russians, Germans, et al. 

 Have all left their mark, in terms of their architecture, their sports, their administrations, the cuisine, etc, wherever they roam. 

 This has been the way of humans since before the Romans and other empire builders. 

 We all carry the past within us, but, if we are to evolve and progress. Then we must have to give up those aspects of it which are proving an obstacle to us creating a future which is not just a continuation of the past.

   It is unlikely that things were ever getting better.   So, what are my thoughts about Hamas' unprecedented attack on parts of Israel, which has resulted in hundreds of men, women and children, some of them soldiers, being killed and thousands of Israelis becoming shocked and traumatised as they have probably never experienced before?
