JUST PHILOSOPHISING - THE UNACCEPTABLE THREAT OF URBAN DEPRIVATION! PART 1.

'Probably the biggest threat which which is facing the so-called developed and lesser developed societies in all parts of the world. Is that posed by urban poverty and deprivation, and the spawning ground for drugs and gang violence which they represents.

If this problem, this curse, is not effectively prevented, then it is likely that the more 'law-abiding' sections of these societies.

Will find themselves increasingly encircled and being contracted, the growth of the 'alternative social cultures and realities.'

We tend to hear a lot about the Favelas of Brazil, the slums of certain places in other countries, such as Jamaica, Honduras, Chile, Peru, Columbia, Brazil, South Africa, Nigeria, et al.

And what is it that all of these and other places have in common? Namely the gravitation of poor people moving towards the big towns and their surrounds, in the hope of getting jobs and being able to have a better standard of living.

However, confronted with the lack of jobs, housing and the ability to pay for decent housing and amenities.

They soon create their own 'make-shift' version of suberbia, which can quickly degenerates into becoming a spawning ground for various illicit and unlawful activities. Such as dealing in illicit drugs, trading, and gang activities.

Probably none of which should be surprising, since such 'alternative cities' will strive to become a reflection of the more 'traditional' cities.

Of course, this springing up of 'alternative cities', whether we call them Favelas, 'Slums', 'Shanties', 'Ghettoes', etc, are not a phenomena which is restricted to the poorer countries.

Instead, we are likely to find versions of them in many of the poorer parts of the 'developed' or 'more developed' countries.

They can be found in dilapidated urban areas of the big 'inner' cites. From which the robust economic activities have disappeared, along with the social amenities and many or most of the citizens who previously depend on them for their livelihoods.

The people, now in fear being  destroyed by the diminishing and diminished life-blood of their former cities, as they, the disaffected neighbourhoods, slide into the growing abyss of no-return.

We can see this from what is happening in the parts of the world which are chronically affected by endemic deprivation.

Such as gang war-fare, and their associated maladies, of illicit drugs dealing, extortion, and 'protection racketeering.'

To be continued.
