JUST A THOUGHT - ARE PEOPLE DEMANDING TOO LITTLE OF THEIR GODS? PART 1.

'The less we ask of someone, the less likely they are to disappoint us.
Either because their failure to deliver will not cost us much, since we were asking for very little, and it would not matter much to us.
Or because we already knew that they would not have been able to deliver even the little we asked of them.'

This is no different when it comes to the concept of sentient gods and theistic religions.

Which leads  me to pose the following questions: Are us humans, including the 'faithful' believers in the gods, asking too little of the gods?

And, if so, why are the 'faithful' not being more demanding of their gods?

Why are they making do with so little, and not demanding that their gods deliver on the many things which they are asking of them?

Why are their gods not proving to be the dispenser of  'the love', of 'the strength', of 'the abundance of blessings', of which they, the 'faithful' and the 'believers', so constantly proclaim their gods to be?

On the BBC's Radio 4 Morning Service slot today, it was the turn of  City Church, in the Welsh capital of Cardiff, to elucidate the audience with the 'glorious attributes' of the Christian God and Jesus Christ.

The Minister and other notable participants regaled their audience with their experiences of 'faith lost and refounded', of how God gives people 'strength' today, and 'hope' for tomorrow.

They spoke of Luke's encounter with Christ as he fished and had his faith tested, fearing his boat would sink, because of the multitude of fish he was catching.

Was this about real fish, or was it about Luke fishing for converts to Christianity?

The congregation sang about praising 'the name of the Lord', and much else. All of which seemed rather 'childish' to me, in how literally they seemed to be taking what they were saying.

When it seems that, for so long, theistic religions have been travelling the world adorned, however colourfully, in fictitious clothing, if not actually naked.

After all, it is so patiently clear that the world is full of hatred, of prejudice, of conflict and violence.

With death and destruction being the daily challenge of so many people, that it is an almost anodyne, a perversity, to speak of  the gods loving, caring and protecting people.

Or being capable of doing so, even when people believe. When it is so abundantly clear that the gods, if they do exist, must be gods of war, of destruction, of greed and despair, for tens, if not thousands of millions of people.

So, why is it that, despite the abundance of evidence of this being so, millions of people continue to speak of the gods as if they are the dispensers of 'love for humans', and the 'givers of strength and peace' to the weak and the conflicted?

To be continued.
