JUST A THOUGHT - THE HAPPINESS BOUGHT AT THE COST OF BREAKING THE TRADITIONS OF 1000S OF YEARS?

I have recently had the privilege and pleasure of watching several of the 'Primrose Panglea videos.

The same being a reflective recall of the fascinating journey and experiences of Jas and his now wife and their family.

A journey and experiences which this young and very resourceful couple have had to live due to them being of the same human race, but of different ethnicity and traditions.

Jas being of Sigh origin, and Primrose being of black African Zimbabwean origin.

Much of Jas and Primrose's experiences and journey is not unfamiliar to millions of couples and families.

Except that it is a relationship, a union between two young people coming from cultures which have, especially from the Asian perspective, are not usually viewed favourably.

Despite the fact that Sikhism, as I understand it, was meant to occupy part of the middle ground between Hinduism and Islam.

This is probably partly the result of the long history of pervasive stratification along class and Caste lines, in Indian society, and its dominance.

Something which the dynamics of having people from India living in other countries inhabited by black people.  Such as in Africa and the West Indies, for hundreds of years, have only had partial success in improving.

Although there is evidence of more cultural mixing of the Asian, African and native peoples living in the West Indies.

The union of Primrose and Jas is clearly a happy one, which has sofar resulted in the birth of two children, who represent the bridging of the Sikh {British-Indian?) or ethnic Indian-African divide.

However, it might be the case that not many will emulate the Primrose-Jas family model, and resort to bridging this divide in this way.

Indians, like many other still predominantly traditional societies, are still too insular, when it comes to their particular ethnic, religious and cultural communities.

Their meticulous adherence to their religious and ethnic traditions, the things which differentiate them from 'others', equally distract them from giving sufficient value to the quintessential  'sameness' of all humans.

Which is why what Jas and Primrose and their respective families have achieved, is so exceptional, and courageous.

Do have a look at some of their videos on Youtube. Chances are that you will enjoy them.

As well as having your faith in the ability of humans, who can be bothered to make the effort, to transcending the chains of the aspects of our tradition.

Which are binding us to the past and obfuscating our vision of the better inclusive future we need to be building. Where we do not allow religion and ethnicity to limit our horizons.
