JUST A THOUGHT - WHEN SMALL SCRUPLES STAND IN THE WAY OF BIGGER THINGS

It is fine to have scruples, to have the proverbial decent principles and values.

To declare that one is against doing evil, taking another person's life, or, indeed, taking any life, knowingly.

However, while this is or might be virtuous, it is quite another matter when we declare that we will never compromise or deflect from our principles, irrespective of what the situation is.

Or that nobody or agency should fail to uphold our principles, or their own. Irrespective of the situation.

So, consider the situation confronting a British police force investigating a child abuse/exploitation ring.

When it finds itself confronting the dilemma of whether to pay one of the person's it is investigating, to give evidence against the other members of the ring.

Or to refuse to do so, at the probably cost on not being able to successfully prosecute the offenders, or spending more time and money investigating the case.

Some people take the position that the Police should, on no account, pay money to this person to given evidence.

Even though said evidence, at the paltry cost of £10,000, have resulted in 18 men being found guilty of sexual exploitation of young girls.

While the Police takes the view that, although they do not consider their modality, in this case, to be virtuous in any way, are of the view that they were justified in paying the money.

And so do I, and, I would have thought, any logically, as opposed to emotionally thinking human.

This tendency of shallow thinking people and the media, who have an unrealistic moralising approach to too many things. Has led  into applying a superficial analysis to complicated issues.

And to  attacking people and agencies who have apply realistic solutions to real life problems.

Whether it is voluntary euthanasia, or, in this case, to effectively investigate and prosecute men who have been perpetrating vile crimes against young women and girls.

There should always be exceptions to the rule, although the exceptions should never be allowed to become the rule. Sometimes we need to allow the people dealing with the challenge to have some flexibility, which is required to address complex situations.
