KENYA'S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: POLITICAL AND LEGAL CRISIS - THE DARKNESS BEFORE THE LIGHT FOR THE NATION? PART.2

For whatever reason, the Kenyan Supreme Court, was due to have another hearing on the legality of the elections, the very day before those elections were due.

Talk about bad timing; about brinkmanship, and lack of sound planning?

Anyway, whereas the Court bravely sat and heard the arguements for and against the constitutional legality of the first election, on 2 brave Justices bothered or were able to attend Wednesday's hearing.

A phenomenon which raises many questions. Such as, how in heavens name can you have a situation where 5 Justices failed to turn up for an hearing which has such profound implications for Kenya's political life, its legal life, its national standing?

Such as, has some vested interests placed irresistible pressures on the Justices, which accounted the absented one, and, if so, who are they?

If Kenya's Supreme Court Justices have bow to pressure from unknown or known dark forces, then, has it not also lost its credibility to  deliberate on and dispense impartial justice?

And now, as a result of this invidious and pernicious situation. Kenya and her people are almost certain to be in for a period of probably considerable instability, blood letting and inter-ethnic violence and people displacement.

All of which suggest that the forces of the state will become increasingly visible and active, and that the country's developing 'democracy' will probably be placed into temporary suspension.

It is sad and tragic, but it is also difficult to believe, as oppose to earnestly hope, that there will not be many Kenyans who will exploit the current crisis.

And use it as a vehicle to sink the nation into a period of significant chaos, through fear and violence.

This has to be the scenario on which the State should plan its strategies to, if not prevent such an occurrence, then to contain it as effectively as possible.

It is, after all, not given to the ordinary citizens, blinded as they might be with the pressures of their immediate and personal circumstances.

To be continued.
