KENYA'S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: POLITICAL AND LEGAL CRISIS - THE DARKNESS BEFORE THE LIGHT FOR THE NATION? THE END!

To adopt the tactics and strategies which a prudent leader/s of a nation might employ. For the former, the now will probably always be prioritised over the future.

And the more volatile and impulsive amongst them will also be more susceptible to the passionate speeches of their leaders. Be more willing to weaponise themselves and become the means of both their own and others harm and destruction. Including that of the nation.

So, the peace and maturity which many Kenyans will desire of compatriots, in them exercising their right to vote and choose their next government, might not be as readily available; not just yet.

How could it be, when one of the two Presidential contenders has instructed his supporters not to vote, and that he is transforming him political party into a resistance movement?

Is he not indicating that, by removing himself from the 'normal' political process, he is assuming that Uhuru Kenyatta will, even if by default, win the election and become the President?

And that he, Raila, is planning a 'resistance campaign, to challenge the next government? And what will be the objective, tactics and strategies of this 'resistance movement'; will it be that of overthrowing the government?

The short-term future for Kenya is not looking good by any stretch of the imagination.

It is difficult to see Raila Odinga coming back from the brink, where he has placed himself.

It is not inconceivable that he and members of his 'resistance movement' could end up in prison, as the political and social crisis plays itself out, with its impact on the country's economy.

And, while managing all of this, Kenya's next government will also have to address those other crises.

Such as its refugee crisis, and the continuing security threat which Al Shabaab poses to it.

So, nobody should be surprised, if 'democracy', instead of  law and order and national security, is not seen as the priority of the next President and government of Kenya.

As the American politicians might have said, may the gods bless Kenyans, and help them to protect themselves from falling too deeply into the abyss of national destitution and despair which is currently threatening to consume them.

A sentiment which all reasonable and well-thinking people around the world would endorse.

Raila's approach, regardless of the short-comings and machinations of the Uhuru camp, is not the best one which he could have taken.

But, although hoping has and will never stave off disaster, let us still hope that the common people, the citizens of Kenya, will demonstrate more prudence and magnanimity than their political masters, and not jump and push one another over the cliff of disaster.

Stand up for Kenya and Kenyans, and not make internecine war. Let peace reign because it is a precondition for the advancement and prosperity of Kenyan, as it is for any other nation!
