BRITAIN'S NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE AND AUNT SAL'S FALL! PART 3.

About 10 or so minutes later, an Ambulance duly arrived, and the two paramedics made their way to Aunt Sal's second floor apartment.  Where they were met by the relative, who greeted and invited them in.

They made their way to Aunt Sal's bedroom, where they introduced themselves, and proceeded to carry out the relevant critical checks.

Including blood sugar test - 10.7 - body temperature - 37.5, a bit high, said the paramedic, noting that it might indicate an infection.

Having concluded that there was no obvious injury, the paramedics decided that they would take Aunt Sal to the hospital for her to have further checks, including a scan.

Just in case she had suffered any concealed injuries, such as fractures. After all, you just never know, so, it is best to safe.

Although it clear represented an inconvenience for Aunt Sal and her relative, Aunt acquiesced to being taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of the nearest hospital.

Within about a further 10 minutes, Aunt Sal, with the aid of her visiting Physio, had gotten dressed, a wheelchair was procured for her, a couple of sandwiches made by her invaluable Physio, and she was taken to the ambulance by the Paramedics.

And so it was, that, within about an hour of Aunt Sal having suffered her fall.  She had been attended to by 4 NHS professionals, and was, within probably another 20 or so minutes, been admitted to A/E.

Where she was further screened, and, by the time her relative attended the hospital, probably about an hour after she was admitted.

Aunt had been allocated a bed in Cubicle 5, where she was being attended, intermittently, by a young female doctor of Chinese origin, and two nurses of probably African or African-Caribbean origins, as well as a Muslim nurse.

Which gives an appreciation of how people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds come together and work together, as a team, as humans, to help to restore the health of the sick.

During her visitations by these medical personnel, Aunt Sal was subjected to a battery of other tests, including the taking of blood samples.

Which proved painful and difficult, as her blood flowed through her veins slowly, checking her pulse, the taking of her blood pressure, which proved even more difficult.

As it, for what seemed a considerable amount of time, would not register on the machine, even as the arm band around her arm kept tightening to the point of her screaming.

Eventually, a reading was made. And about an hour later, Aunt Sal had her head scan, the results of which, along with her blood test, when they were ready about 30 or so minutes later, transpired to have been fine.

To be continued.
