JUST A THOUGHT - ON SPANISH CATALAN'S TRAGEDY, AND THE IMPERMANENCE OF THE ALLURE OF THE 'INDEPENDENCE FERVOUR! PART 2.

So, no, if we were to compare the 'nation family' with the human 'family system.'

It is not unusual that a constituent section, be it ethnic, cultural or religious, should or might want to become independent of the composite nation.

Of course, that does not mean that that would be or is a good thing.

In fact, all things being equal, by which I mean that all the constituent parts of the nation family are being treated with reasonably equal respect and provision of goods and services, etc.

The tendency towards individual peoples becoming independent from the core nation is not, in my view, a good or desirable thing.

Indeed, it would appear at times that, within the human species, their is an almost irreconcilable conflict of two forces.

With the one pulling people together to form a stronger union, and the other propelling people to declare 'their separateness', 'their differences from the rest', their 'uniqueness', and their supposed 'exclusivity'

To take us back, as it were, to our own separate enclave or 'cave.'

When, no sooner have we achieved what might have or might not have been a desirable and profitable state of 'independent being.'

We begin to aspire, to strive to become an integral part of 'the whole', again. We seek inclusion instead of exclusion, even if from the new status of 'being an independent nation.'

We should be able to understand the yearning of an oppressed,  enslaved, and/or colonised people to have their independence, from the countries and powers which are oppressing them.

Independence, when considered withing the context of colonialism, imperialism, and alien occupation - as could be applied to Israel occupying Palestinian people and their lands.

Is certainly a most desirable aspiration and a worthy cause to be fought for, by those who are being subjected to it.

That fact that many or most of those nations which have fought for and won their independence, will or already have floundered.

And failed to achieve economic and social independence for the masses, which then compromise or negate their 'political independence', is another matter.

That can be tantamount to the 'young adult who have attained the age of majority, saying to his/her parents, 'it is my life, I can do whatever I want to do with it; leave me alone.'

However, like the young adult who wants to be left alone, but who has the responsibility for the care of their own vulnerable children, the independent state or nation, has responsibility for the material wellbeing of all of its people.

A challenge which is not going to be met by the consumption of ephemerality of 'the pride of being an independent nation.'

To be continued.
