ROBERT MUGABE HAS GONE - ZIMBABWEANS SHOULD NOW BUILD THE BETTER NATION THEY COULD HAVE HAD! PART 2.

'A people who have, for decades been oppressed and have their potential destroyed, is likely to respond with euphoria and/or rashness to any loosening of their chains.

As they begin to hope again. To have faith in the belief that their leaders, the elites, have a greater preponderance for altruism than for selfishness.

Even when there is little evidence of it being so. Of the Crocodile being able magically change itself into becoming the protector of the wilderbeest, instead of preying on it.'

Commenting on the then dissident problem which was affecting Matabeleland, the article, written 34 years ago, went on to cite the

"..need for Robert Mugabe and his army to not follow the previous regime of Ian Smith, in not making any distinction between dissidents and their families and the local people."

And that "nothing should be done which might cause Zimbabweans to fear for their lives and flee the country in large numbers."

So, what has been the result, 34 years after those observations?

Well, large numbers of Zimbabweans have felt the need to leave the country, for reasons including them fearing for their lives, and not being able to have much of a living in the country.

Because of Zanu-PF's plundering and scorched earth policies towards Zimbabwe's economic infra-structure.

Instead of encouraging and promoting the realisation of the country's entrepreneurial spirit and potential.  Zanu-PF concentrating on distributing 'the spoils of war'; the businesses and farms of White Zimbabweans, and drive them out of the country.

Misusing 'anti-colonialism' as his raison de'tre, as it and its leaders resisted taking the required leap into a more future-focused and enlightened epoch.

The country's economy has been wrecked by the reckless and incompetent management of a government which set about pillaging instead of building and adding to it.

It focused on reaping but not on sowing, thereby bringing the country to its knees.

Consequently, the past 37 years of Zimbabwe's independence has been her lost, wasted years.

It is now incumbent on Zimbabweans to now make a new start to build a fairer and more just and equitable society, which is fit for all of her citizens.

It is probably something which the apparent designated interim new President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, is likely to be promising the people of Zimbabwe that he will be doing.

That he is now going to usher in the long delayed New Era of Enlightenment and prosperity for the country.

And yet, how gullible would Zimbabwean have to be to believe him, when he has been so integral a part of Robert Mugabe's failed experiment?

When he has failed to make any attempt to build such a society during the past 37 years?

To be continued
