JUST AN ANXIOUS THOUGHT - THE CURSE OF BREXIT? PART 1.

The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, is having a rather hectic time ruling her country and negotiating the United Kingdom's acrimonious divorce, nay, accession from the European Union.

Not only is she being pummelled by her still European Union partners, many of whom might, at times, politely smiled as they meet her for further negotiations. But might also be having difficult containing their pleasure at her discomfort.

It does not matter that Theresa May is not really responsible for bringing about this fearful burden with which she must do battle.

For that, she, the British people and the 27 other current members of the European Union must thank or curse the former British Prime Minister, David Cameron.

As well as the EU's resistance towards the necessary reforms which it needs.

It was DC who attempted to make short-term gains by promising a compromised solution, the Brexit Referendum, which has now transpired to have massive long term disadvantages.

As we can see from the current travail of Prime Minister May and her government, it is not only her estranged European Union colleagues, with whom she must now do battle. But with the fundamentalist Unionist junior partner of her minority government.

It is with the her Northern Ireland Sinn Fein Party opposition. It is with the Irish Government, which is concerned about how the Brexit chips will impact their country's economy and relations with the people of the United Kingdom.

And now, with 'the concept of party loyalty' within the Tory Party becoming more elasticated, Prime Minister May might now be feeling that she has just been dealt a very painful 'Brutusian' blow by some of the 'rebels' within her rank.

Party members who want greater parliamentary oversight of what agreements the British Government makes and does not make in its negotiations with its EU members.

It is true that we are not yet, neither can we really be certain about how much harm Brexit will do to the shared interests of the people of Britain and the rest of the European Union. As well as other countries with which the EU has trading and other agreements.

However, the indications are that the harm which will arise are likely to outweigh the benefits of Brexit.

After all, people normally work to improve on what they have, if it is still working.

You would not normally destroy 'the wheel', on the basis that you are going to invent 'a better wheel.' It takes a lot of time and money to design, model, discuss and build a new system.

And this is what now confronts the British people and their government, and, yes, all the nations which have trading and transit agreements with Britain.

To be continued!
