JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON WHETHER THE 'ENLIGHTENED' WEST IS BECOMING MORE PURITANICAL? PART 4.

So much so that more men might, indeed, choose to become celibate. Ironically, at a time when the pressure for the Roman Catholic clergy to loosen or end its commitment to celibacy.

 How sad and destructive it is for the the amenable conduct of the relations between men and women and for family life.  

 When there is this seemingly relentless preoccupation of the media with accounts and allegations and insinuations about men abusing  abusing women, and females in general? 

 When the seemingly constant refrain of the 'news' is of another sensationalised case of alleged historical abuse and/or harassment of women, of female, of young boys by men?


How are people to respond to this constant barrage of alleged depravity, or men having or have allegedly behaved badly in the past? 

 What is to be the 'normal' or 'acceptable' reaction of women, of men, of little children, of older children, both males and females.  

 To watching and listening to the 'news' and documentaries about alleged sexual harassment, abuse and inappropriate behaviour? 

 Are the children to become fearful of their fathers, of their male relatives? 

 After all, they are all males and the media is feeding everybody, both children and adults, with a constant menu of 'men as potential and/or actual sexual predators.' 


Of men  as 'indespicables.' The overt and subliminal message which is constantly being portrayed in the media is one of, 'do not trust men.' 

 And this is not the 'do not trust men' of folklore days. This is a more misandrogenistic 'do not trust men, or you will be in danger', because they are not only potential rapist of women.  

 But they are all potential sexual abusers of children too. 

 And so we have the creation of this toxic and apprehensive atmosphere, which is being constantly reinforced on a daily basis.

Diplomacy ought to be the process by which nations, through their governments, establish and maintain mutually beneficial and peaceful relationships between them; Diplomacy is not, like the Gulf Cooperation Council members and their allies, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE states, trying to bully and intimidate Qatar into doing their bidding, by surrendering its sovereignty.  Neither is diplomacy what the American government is doing, in using sanctions to force the governments of states of Iran, Russia and North Korea, into complying with its demands.  About what action they should or should not take in pursuing what they consider to be in the interest of their countries and people.  No, none of this is diplomacy. Rather it is method of force and compulsion, which is not synonymous with principle or practice of diplomacy.  Which is about the art of establishing and maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships between different countries.
