JUST A THOUGHT - ON THE PYRRHICISM OF REDUCING WOMEN' EMPLOYMENT IN FORMULA 1. PART 1.

So, Formula 1 Grand Prix  has decide to stop using 'sexily attired young women' to appear parading with their all male drivers at the beginning and end of their races. 

The response from different interests to this seminal development has been mixed. 

There are those who welcome this action, probably arguing that it brings to an end what they see as the 'demeaning symbolic use' of women to 'glamourise' the sports. 

It does not matter to those who share this argument, that Formula 1 Grand Prix, with its stables of exciting young racers and flashy racing cars, does not really need the added input of these 'sexily dressed' young women to add glamour to it. 

And then, there are those who would argue that using these women - some women, including the advocates of gender equality, enigmatically, prefer to refer to themselves, even after they have attained a certain age, as 'girls' - pander to men's sexual fantasies and sexual objectification of women. 

Something with which it is probably difficult to honestly and accurately rebuff. 

Since it is, indeed, likely to at least reinforce such perceptions within some, if not most men.

For Formula 1, their rationale for deciding to dispense with using 'sexily clad females' to accompany their racers onto the track and to act as 'a guard of honour Podumites, as they make their way to the Podium. 

Is likely to be about doing the 'politically correct thing', at a time when men and the perceived world of men are under intense attack from feminist, suffragettes and other women's rights advocates. 

Formula 1 is taking action which it considers necessary to protect its reputation and its financial security. 

Especially at a time when it has to contend with the glaring omission of any female racers amongst its stables. 

Something over which it does not have all the power to change, but which still places it in an embarrassing position. 

Formula 1's financial viability and profitability does not require it continue with the use of these, yes, beautiful and 'sexy looking' women in their employ.
