JUST A THOUGHT - ON THE PROBABLY TOKENISTIC NATURE OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY! PART 1.

So, today, the 8th day of the month of March, 2018, like it is every day of each year, has been declared "International Women's Day. 

Yes, and what; where do we, men and women, boys and girls, tomorrow's generations, go from here? Is today a joyous day for Women? 

Does it mean that Today, the women of the world will be able to have an off day? 

An off day during which they will not have to work, or work as hard as they have been doing and have to do for the rest of 2018? 

Does it mean that men, whether strangers or members of their families and friendship network, will not abuse and or exploit them today? 


Does it mean that Women's partners, families and society will have a lesser expectation of them Today; will go easy on them? 

Or that many women will, today, be given some flowers, and/or some wine, champagne and chocolate, in gratitude and acknowledgement of services rendered to men, to their families and to society?

Does International Women's Day have anymore significance, or is of anymore value to women, than 'Mothers' Day? Is it anymore than a consumeristic nod, a tokenistic gesture to women?

Does it go any where near to Men acknowledging the centuries old and continuous exploitation and oppression of women? 


How does International Women's Day helps the courageous and pioneer Iranian Woman.  Who has recently been imprisoned by men, in the service of their god and hyper-traditionalistic culture, to 2 years imprisonment?  

For simply freeing herself of the imprisonment of under the hijab which she does not want to wear? 

For having made a personal decision to not wear the hijab, so that she could could become more of a person.  More of an individual and not a homogeneous  and undifferentiated mass? 

So that she could see more clearly and widen her horizon, and so that she could be seen and even acknowledged by others; as a person. A person with her own individuality, her own form and substance?
