CHINESE GRAND PRIX QUALIFYING - SEB VETTEL STILL ON FIRE, WITH HAMILTON DELAYED!

Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari for having delivered Pole position to themselves in the Chinese Grand Prix Qualifying!

Congratulations also to Kimi, for coming in at P.2, and to Bottas, for remaining consistent in his placing himself at P.3.

For Hamilton and Team Mercedes, the feeling of travelling through the desert and being beckoned and encouraged by the appearance of alluring oasis, only to have them ever receding into the distance, as they approach them.

Yes, so far, it has been a quite discouraging 2018 Formula 1 Season for Mercedes and their drivers, Hamilton and Bottas.

Yes, it is not things  are anywhere near the stage where their status and standing as the first amongst equals is irredeemable.

No, after all, this is only the third race of the Season. However, reputation counts for a lot in Formula 1 races.

A team and driver can sail, or drive to new heights, travelling on the crest of the latest win.

Whereas failure to win can lead to doubts creeping in and morale haemorrhraging from both the drivers and their teams.

Failure to win can cause self-doubts within teams and drivers, causing them to lose the psychological war which is also a part of the battle.

It can result in you hearing more about the failings of the team, rumours and talk about losing instead of winning.

It can lead to both drivers and teams making more mistakes, as they endeavour to turn things around, but doing so by taking more risks, being more reckless as they hunt for that victory; that win.

This, then, is the paradox confronting Team Mercedes and their drivers, Bottas and Hamilton.

How hungry are they to get that win, how much risk are they willing to take, and how few mistakes can they make, and how many can they avoid, in order to get that win?

Are they able to infuse some Kimi 'steel and coolness' to help them to stay on track, to stay committed, and not panic?

Not become dishearted and allow an acute lack of form and misfortune to become chronic and all pervasive throughout the Season?

Is Team Mercedes and Hamilton and Bottas able to be tough enough to keep going when the going gets tough?

Are they able to think and say, bring it on; the gods of fortune and all?

Come the early hours of Sunday morning in China, we shall see if Team Mercedes and Hamilton and Bottas has what it takes.

Whether they have both the metal and the coolness which is born of strong self-belief, commitment, and a willingness to become as one with car, team, circuit and the gods of good fortune!

Yes, bring it on, Circuit China, and let us see the quality of the competitors!
