SPANISH GRAND - MERCEDES AND HAMILTON AND BOTTAS MAKES IT STICK!

There is a saying; 'be careful you do not get what you hoped for.' At least, when you are not certain what you really want.

And so it was that I had hoped for a "spectacular" Spanish Grand Prix, when what I probably should have said, was that, I hoped the race would be 'exciting and thrilling.'

People who, like me, take a certain delight and satisfaction in endeavouring to use words to sculpt and bring our thoughts, our vision to life.

Should be very careful to ensure that we use the appropriate word/s to conceive and bring to life the pictures we want to convey.

Yes, in describing the Spanish Grand Prix, you could, rightly, say that the gods of fate did deliver a 'spectacular' race.

However, it has transpired that, what the Barcelona Circuit  did provide us with, was something more of a 'spectacle', than a spectacular race.

Yes, the adrenaline was there alright, but, so was the chaos which saw no less than 3 cars retiring before they were able to navigate the third turn.

After the hapless Grojean have the terrible misfortune of having his car making an uncontrolled and unrehearsed exit from the circuit.

After a driver-error assisted collision, and then, like a splashing dying and vengeful snake or rhino.  Spinning back onto the circuit to take out two of his colleagues and scattering others.

And, in all of this high and chaotic drama, Team Mercedes and their two drivers, Hamilton and Bottas, remained rather aloof and untroubled, even with the interventions of the Safety Car and the Virtual Safety Car.

Such were their esteemed alignment with providence, or the gods of good fortune.  That none of the competition came close to threatening Team Mercedes and Hamilton and Bottas' quest to deliver a P.1 and P.2 finish.

Thereby converting their Qualifying positions into the wins they desired.

So, Team Merceds, and Hamilton and Bottas, A Big Congratulation for having made your Qualifying positions stick in the Race. A Big Congratulation also, to Verstappen and Red Bull, for coming in at P.3.

All of which have combined to put Hamilton 17 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel.  For whom, the circumstances of the race had been such that he ended the race one place from where he started.

Giving way to Max Verstappen reclaiming some of the grounds he and Ricciardo lost at the Baku Circuit, by taking P.3.

It was and  is lovely to see that the smiles are back on the faces of Team Mercedes, Bottas and Hamilton.

And that, as the latter has said, if he continues to enjoy racing as he had done this weekend, he "could be racing for a long time to come."

A day at a time is how us humans live, a day at a time. If Mercedes and Hamilton and Bottas continue to put in the inspired and aspirational effort, performance, and consistency.

Then, they might well be on their way to continuing to enjoy racing and giving pleasure to the lovers and watchers of the sport.
