JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON BEING OLD. PART 1.

It is the fate of some of us humans that, not only are we fated to experience the enjoyable, the painful and anxiety provoking events of our childhood, our early adulthood and our middle-age. 

But also the period in our lives where in which we become old. Providing, of course, we should be find ourselves to be blessed.  

Not only to have survived to achieve old age, but to experience reasonably good health and enjoyment in that period. 

For some of us, old age might well be a period of added tribulations. 

Especially if our younger years were a time of much struggle, in our pursuit of the frequently too elusive 'happiness' which we all aspire toward.

Speaking of 'being old', I am not referring to the process in which a child grows older, becoming an adolescent, a young adult. 

And then attains the age of what might be considered to be that of a mature adult. 

One who, in all likelihood, should or is likely to find themselves responsible for not only their own well-being, but that of others

That stage in ones life when they become responsible for their own independent living.  

Assuming full responsibility not only for themselves, but also for any dependent children and adults they have charge of. 

The time in ones life when, all things being equal, we attain an established and consolidated livelihood, or means of providing for ourselves and our dependants.

So, what do I mean by 'become old'? Many of us will have heard the 'old saying' that 'your are only as old as you feel.' 

Well, yes, there is some validity in that adage, providing we do not interpret it as a definition of becoming old, as opposed to our progress along the, let me say, 'path of old age.'
