The truth is that, in all the time I have spent in the USA, as an American, I have never felt comfortable living here.

Although it was a time when the expatriate Europeans who had made America their home, were fighting the British Crown for their independence.

These expatriate Europeans were also enslaving their African slaves, and destroying the Native Americans.
This meant that, the part of the inscription on me, which immortalised "..huddled masses yearning to breathe free."
Was not meant to include the either the Native Americans or the people who have now become 'African-Americans.'
Consequently, the oppression of both was always a part of the 'price' of enabling 'the huddles and poor masses' from other countries, to come to America and "breathe free."
The light of my torch was not meant to light their 'darkness and dark world.' Neither was open hand meant to guide them towards security and prosperity.
So, no, I had never felt comfortable in America. Not with it being a land where mostly the rich prospers, while the 'poor, tired and huddled masses' continue to increase.
Almost exponentially. In fact, to the extent where the current President has seen it fit to deport me.
Because he no longer wishes that I should symbolises the clarion call, for the poor to head to the USA, in their mostly futile desire to realise the 'American dream.'
