This is a development which will widen the range of positive 'role models' available for young people of colour, in the first instance, but also to young people in general,of whatever colour. 

 After all, it is always worthwhile for us to be aware of the fact that all of us have not only one, but several 'identities.'  

 All or some of which  might be contention or conflict at times. 

 For example, in the case of the now Duchess of Sussex, she is not only a Royalty, but she is a female Royalty. 


She is also a woman, a black or 'mixed-race' woman, an American, now a British citizen, and a member of the human race. 

 There are times when any of these different but essential 'identities, might come under stress.

 I have heard some facile black persons making throwaway comments about the Duchess' ethnic origin.' 

 Probably the most stupid of which is that about her 'not being really black, and not looking like what I take to be the stereotypical 'black woman.' 


Probably the important things for the Duchess of Sussex, is that she should continue to be a compassionate human being. 

 Be good partner to her husband, the Duke of Sussex, competently perform her duties as a member of the British Royal family.  

 And enjoy what she does and have a happy life. 

 She should not be expected to put her credentials as 'a black person', above that of being foremost. an ordinary person on whom fate has now bestowed the privilege and burden of royalty.

   It is unlikely that things were ever getting better.   So, what are my thoughts about Hamas' unprecedented attack on parts of Israel, which has resulted in hundreds of men, women and children, some of them soldiers, being killed and thousands of Israelis becoming shocked and traumatised as they have probably never experienced before?
