JUST A THOUGHT - ON ZIMBABWE'S ELECTIONS AND THE NEED NOT TO DESPAIR. THE END....

There has to be some concern that the MDC, as it has so far show, would be hamstrung by some, if not many of the vices of the ZANU-PF regime.

Such as opportunism, such as 'big manism', nepotism, tribal manipulation and corruption.

That does not mean that the MDC, the probably favourite son of the progressives and liberals, could not, indeed, make itself the champion of the Zimbabwean people and 'savour' of the country.

It should be able to do so, but its reaction to and approach to dealing with its narrow defeat by the incumbent regime leaves much to be desired.

Instead of appearing to inciting the masses to take to the streets 'to demand justice', the MDC and its leaders need to dig deep, bide their time and set about working effectively amongst and educating the masses.

Championing the better life which all Zimbabweans aspire toward, and not limiting the debate to that of party X versus party Y.

And what of the ZANU-PF administration? Is the Crocodile at its head really able and sufficiently committed to attempt to reform it.

So that it can gain and improve its credibility amongst its detractors, without losing too much of its current core supporters?

Especially those who stand to lose out from the loss of their tribal, party and political patronage?

Yes, it is the case that ZANU-PF has become scurrilous and endemically corrupt.

That it would have appeared that it would have been better for it to disband itself and begin afresh.  With new leaders who are not tainted and infected by the mismanagement, the corruption and misrule for which ZANU-PF has become known.

And yet, that will not happen, not in Zimbabwe, not on in this instance.

Which means that the party, in order to ensure its survival, in order to regain the international credibility which it has squandered in the interest of political dogma and Robert Mugabe's defective ego. ZANU-PF must persue an alternation option.

It must try and appear to transform itself into a party and regime with which other countries and businesses can do business with.

Without losing their claim to being ethical and supporters of basic human rights.

Emmerson Mnangagwa is an ageing 'crocodile', and not a leopard which cannot change its proverbial 'spots.' Crocodiles are survivors, and they have only been able to do so, because of their ability to adapt to their environment, even when it becomes threatening.

What greater incentive can any party has to rid itself of the dead wood within it, and to adapt than to know that, in doing so, its survival is likely to be assured?
