I am not convinced by the argument that workers really merit being made shareholders in their employing companies.

Simply on the basis of them contributing the physical labour and intellectual skills they do, to produce the tangible and service products they make or provide.

Why? Well, because, yes, the providers of labour and intellectual skills, and those who provide capital. Whether they are the entrepreneurs and/or shareholders, are all essential for the successful operation of the company.

Each of them, separately and all of them collectively, have their roles to play, and should be rewarded fairly for the value of their contribution.

If venture capital, independent shareholders and the owners of labour and intellectual skills and expertise make and contractual agreement to go into business together.

With them according corresponding value to the productive forces they are contributing, and agreeing how and what level of reward they are entitled to, and what liabilities they are responsible for.

Then, that is fine. If, for example, they, collectively, agree that the owners of labour and the intellectual skills and expertise which the business requires to prosper.

Should be paid by a combination of wages or salaries, and a portion of shares in the business.

Then that is fine. That is what has been agreed. But I do have a problem with venture or other capitalists, or, more personally, people starting up and investing in their own businesses.

To be continued!
