JUST A THOUGHT, ON SYRIA AND THE BATTLE FOR IDLIB - A NECESSARY PRICE TO END THE WAR? THE END.....

And this is a goal they are committed to and are prepared to fight, kill and die for.

There are likely to be, however, other Syrians living in Idlib who support the government and not the rebels.  But who find that their survival, as tends to be the case in wars and violent conflicts of many kinds.

Those who are having to make out that they support the rebels, not having the presence and protection of the government.

For these Syrians, the probably imminent government offensive to retake Idlib is likely to be something they are anxiously and even ambivalently contemplating.

Ambivalent because, too often, 'being liberated' is bought at a pyrrhic price, with the people, those who find themselves, after the destruction, without only their lives but no livelihoods, homes or property.

Notwithstanding the terribly dilemma which confronts the people of Idlib, it does seem that the cost of the government taking the City now, is likely to be less than it would be to attempt to do so next year or the year after.

Not only to the people of Idlib, but to the rest of Syria, as an Idlib left in the rule of the rebels and their foreign backers, could be the equivalent of the former ISIL occupied Raqqa.

A 'safe enclave' from which the rebels would go about infiltrating into the rest of the country and continue to wage war against the government and undermine society.

This is why the war in Syria cannot be ended, and the battle for peace and the reconstruction of the Syrian nation succeed, while Idlib remains in the hands of the rebels and their western, Sunni and Turkish allies.

This is a fact which the involved countries and organisations know to be the case, but they lack the moral, intellectual and strategic courage and honesty to acknowledge it.

And instead resort to their default position of being harbingers of doom. Using terminologies which they have so often used, even for lesser tragedies, that they devalue them. As well as severely compromising their integrity.
