JUST A THOUGHT - ON WHETHER WAR REMEMBRANCE DAY GLORIFIES OR REPUDIATES WARS. PART 1.

For many countries, Remembrance Day is upon us again. 

But just what is it that the living, most of whom were not alive and living during the barbaric and murderous, genocidal years, months, days, hours, minutes and infinity of World Wars One and Two? 

What is it that we should be remembering or persuaded to 'remember,' about those days of merciless slaughtering of humans and animals, and the destruction of their lives?

Some will say, we who are now alive, would not have been alive if those hundreds of millions of men and women, both soldiers and civilians, had not 'been sacrificed' in the cause of defeating 'evil.' 

That we would not have had the 'freedom' which we, who are alive, are still enjoying. 

Even though, looking around us, it is clear that some of us are, indeed, living in a 'state of reasonable freedom', while others continue to live in 'states of gross or relative oppression', 'states of unfreeness.'

And yet, I do at times ponder who would have loose out, and what would they or we have lost, if we were not alive? 

If we, who 'are free' or 'comparatively free', did not have the 'freedoms' which we now have? 

As it is clearly the case that tens, hundreds of millions of our fellow humans, continue to 'live without that, this 'freedom' of which we speak and hold in such esteem. 

Indeed, this 'freedom', whether it be the 'freedom' to speak our minds, the 'freedom' of movement across borders, the 'freedom' to set up this or that political party or religion.  

Or the 'freedom' to divide ourselves or be divided on the basis of our gender, our sexual orientation, or our ethnic or religious or political affiliations.
