JUST A THOUGHT - ON BEING CHALLENGED BY THE DISTRESS OF AN HIGHLY PERSONALISED CASE OF ALTERED REALITY! PART 1.!

So, how do I know what is this other person's perception of what is and what is not? 

She tells me of a thing which besets her. Not once, not twice, but many times. So much that she has come to expect to befall her. 

Not one night or two, but, it seems, every night. She tells me of how she no longer sleeps, because, she says, she is not able to do so. 

Because she is no longer able to rid her consciousness or her subconsciousness of the phone she expects to ring, and the silence of the caller on the other end of the line. 

She is no longer able to sleep, she tells me, because she does not know if the caller is near or a far. 

And, should I be disinclined to believe her. Then, how do I respond, when she tells me of this person, whom she asserts to be a man. 

Who has been repeatedly trying to "break her door off", late during the nights and early in the mornings? 

Yes, how do I respond to that? Do I tell her that she is imagining it and that it is not real? 

When, notwithstanding my spoken and unspoken doubts and queries, it is clearly very real to her? 

So real that it continues to keep her up at nights, wondering whether 'this man' will eventually succeed in breaking into her apartment? 

Even though it is not clear what motive this man could have for wanting to break her door down and do her some unspecified harm? 

Do I enquire of her, who this man is or might be, knowing that she has her suspicions, fixations even, about the identity of this man?
