JUST A THOUGHT - ON HOW DEALING WITH DRUGS, KNIFE AND GUN CRIMES, IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERYBODY, AND NOT JUST A 'LAW ENFORCEMENT PROBLEM.' THE END......

Probably the worst thing anybody can do for anybody, or a people, is to tell them that their fate is in the hands of others.

That they/we cannot do more to gain control over their/our fate. That racism and poverty are holding them/us back. And then to perpetuate those explanation for their disadvantage.

This is not what should be being preached to the black and minority ethnic populations of our neighbourhoods, our villages, our towns and our cities.

The message should be one of self-empowerment, of empowering people.

By telling our fellow citizens, of whatever ethnicity, religious persuasion and cultural affiliations, that your/our fate lies in our own hands and intellect.

And our ability and capacity to engage with and cooperate with others to achieve desirable changes.

We need to 'disown' and hold to account people who commit serious crimes and hold them to account, appropriately for their ages, and irrespective of their ethnic, cultural and religious affiliations.

We do not do people who use knives, guns, illicit drugs and other weapons to attack and harm others, any good, by citing and blaming 'poverty', 'racism', 'police harassment' and the 'greed of the elites.'

That is not to say that these might and/or not relevant factors, but it does no good constantly reciting them. No, it begins to sound pathetic and whinging.

Particularly as change will, can only come when we, the people, separately, individually and collectively.

Take responsibility for improving our fate, our life-chances, and agree and implement appropriate and continuous action to bring it about.

It begins with taking responsibility for making our home safe and peaceful, which is the primary responsibility of the family living there.

Making our streets and neighbourhoods safe and free from criminality, is foremost the responsibility of those of us who live on and visit these streets and neighbourhood.

And then comes 'our town', 'our city', 'our country', and, eventually, 'our planet earth.'

It is a collective responsibility of all of us, and it is futile to see this challenge, this responsibility, as primarily or mostly that of the Police and/or the government.

After all, where does the problem originates, and who are its primary victims, if not us, the people?
