It was a time when you could say I was quite steeped in religion, as I even considered becoming a missionary. 

 I memory which makes me now feel uneasy that I might have been so easily have been on the 'other side of the divide between those who believe and those who do not.' 

 It might well have been so different, had it not been that, within the context of Christendom. 

 I still need to go to theological college to, in my view, learn how to become knowledgeable in the history of religious deception. 



But back to my knowingly having interacted with Jewish people. 

 As this man and I indulged in our discussion about religion, and I explained to him what was then my understanding of which of the 12 tribes of Israel I felt I belonged to, according to Bibical stories. 

 I remembered how I felt deflated, disappointed, when he began to explain to me that all 12 tribes of Ancient Israel, were, in fact, Jews. 

 And not, as I thought at the time, or, better still, wanted to think, that one of them was the ancestor of the worlds' black populations. 

 Yes, a status which has subsequently been attributed to Ham, one of the purported sons of Noah.

  So, what are my thoughts about Hamas' unprecedented attack on parts of Israel, which has resulted in hundreds of men, women and children, some of them soldiers, being killed and thousands of Israelis becoming shocked and traumatised as they have probably never experienced before? Diplomacy ought to be the process by which nations, through their governments, establish and maintain mutually beneficial and peaceful relationships between them; Diplomacy is not, like the Gulf Cooperation Council members and their allies, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE states, trying to bully and intimidate Qatar into doing their bidding, by surrendering its sovereignty.  Neither is diplomacy what the American government is doing, in using sanctions to force the governments of states of Iran, Russia and North Korea, into complying with its demands.  About what action they should or should not take in pursuing what they consider to be in the interest of their countries and people.  No, none of this is diplomacy. Rather it is method of force and compulsion, which is not synonymous with principle or practice of diplomacy.  Which is about the art of establishing and maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships between different countries.
