AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 26.

But time has changed, as the saying goes, and the old ways, old loyalties do not carry much, if any weight today.

We must, we should live in the present, whether willingly or involuntarily. Because living in the past is only something which we can attempt through our memory, which, as we grow older, does fade.

And when we think and behave as if we are in the past, it can annoy, frustrate and irritate those close to us, who must live in the present.

And this is a big problem for my dear mother and those close to her. Because, while she is clearly living, physically, in the present, her thinking continues to return to the past.

She seems to be increasingly using the past as the prism through which she addresses the present.

My dear mother is clear that she has worked hard throughout her working life, and that she is entitled to what she needs and has a right to. Whether that is from her children, the government or society.

As she is at present, my dear mother, to be fair to her, does not really preoccupy herself with thoughts of the future.

She does not make much ado about what she is going to do tomorrow, next week or next year.

To be continued!
