BAKU GRAND PRIX QUALIFYING - TEAM MERCEDES STILL ON TOP WITH P.1 AND P.2

Azerbaijan is one of those Eastern countries which is known for its martial past, but, it seems, has had to contend with the martial spirit of the apparently fearless Formula 1 racers who, year after year, combat its somewhat death defying Baku race circuit.

As so it was that, on Qualifying on Saturday, the nearly unyielding Circuit extracted cars after cars, and damaged egos from those wanting to qualifying and take the coveted Pole position for Sunday's race.

Amongst those drives who had to pay the gut-wrenching price of being drawn into shielded walls of the track, were Kubica and the currently massively impressive Charles Leclerc, who is seemingly fated to win at least one World Championship.

Hopefully, Lewis, Bottas and Vettel, might be thinking, not the current one.

And just to reinforce their aspiration to achieving this Championship, notwithstanding their respect and admiration for the young Leclerc.

Team Mercedes extracted a Pole for Bottas, and a P.2 position for Hamilton, who was pipped by his team mate, due to the particular circumstances of the final lap of Qualifying.

So, A Very Big Congratulation to Team Mercedes and their battling racers, Bottas and Hamilton.

Also a Big Congratulation - and commiseration - to Team Ferrari and their battling racers, Vettel, who made it to P.3, and Leclerc, for having fallen into the hands of a foul fate.

Of course, all or the racers who ventured onto this circuit and risked what has become somewhat of a 'destruction derby.'

Are worthy of the respect of those of us who are able to watch and enjoy their bravery, from the safety of not having to participate in the Practice and Qualifying stages.

But what of today, Race Day? Who which team and drivers will prevail and occupy the Podium?

Is it going to be Charles Leclerc, 'The Fated One'? Or will it be Valtteri Bottas, the racer who has apparently remodelled himself into a racer who is now about winning racers, more than ever before?

And what about Sebastian Vettel; is he and Team Ferrari fated to become 'The Conquerors of Baku'?

Or could it be Ricciardo, Perez, Verstappen, the list goes on.

But what about Lewis Hamilton; could Baku 2019 Grand Prix be won by him and Team Mercedes, probably in the manner of how they had claimed Bahrain?

It is both possible and probably. How probably we shall have to await the race, to see what the gods and fate, and the racers and their team.

Have taken to Baku, and what chemical reaction all the factors and ingredients will have wrought. What team tactics and strategies and driver skills and experiences will be deployed.

As we look forward to another thrilling and safe race.
