Is and would be too high for many people. They do not envision themselves being the unfortunate people who would have to pay that price. 

 So they are not likely to change their mind, until the point when the cost hits them in the face; when the price of jumping ship 'direct affects them.' 

 They are too selfish in their unwillingness and/or inability to empathise with other people. 

 They seem incapable or unwilling to appreciate the fact that, 'good policies and decisions' do not occur outside of their historical and contemporary context or relevance. 


What is today 'a 'good political, social or economic decision or policy', can be a poor one tomorrow, since the political, economic and/or social landscape or environment will have changed. 

 As we can see, for example. From the British Prime Minister opting for a short rather than a long delay to implement its cessation from the European Union. 

 But only to have the European Union's elections taking place during the interim, and giving rise to further complications to both the government's diminishing authority and legitimacy to enact the withdrawal. 

 As well as raising legitimate questions about is strategy and tactics for withdrawing.
