AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX - MAX AND RED BULL MAXED IT, AS FIA SETS NEW SAFETY PRECEDENT. PART 1.

But he had clearly obstructed Leclerc's attempt to win the race. Even though Max could probably still have won it, had he not chosen to indulge in that risky manoeuvre at that corner.

If the conclusion is that Max deserved to win the race, and in the manner in which he won it.

Then, are we not also saying that Charles Leclerc deserved to lose it in the manner in which he lost it?

And, if so, what precedent is this incident and its resolution setting for Formula 1?

Is it now to be the prerogative of any and all of the drivers to decide what manoeuvre is legitimate and allowable, and which are not? As Sebastian Vettel appeared to be saying at the end of the Austrian Grand Prix.

Of course the FIA needs to make Formula 1 much more exciting? The big question or dilemma for the FIA and all the teams and drivers is about how should they all proceed toward making it so.

It is not something which should be decided in a ad hoc and knee-jerk fashion.

Not something which should be determined by 'populism.' After all, Formula 1 has had a history of being a deadly and chaotic, devil take the hindmost sport for decades.

To be continued!
