As somehow attesting to the supposedly 'lesser intellect and humanity' of the people who relied up and/or wanted to rely on them.

But, it would seem, as the intellect of humans continue to develop. 

 This level of human self-debasement' could not remain tenable, as more questions were being asked about these false representation and representatives of 'god.' 


If you can see your 'god', then you can put him under the microscope and examine and interrogate him. Secretly or publicly, since he will only occupy your mind if you allow him to do so. 

 And he will only communicate with you, through the self-deception of others who imagine themselves to be speaking on his behalf, when you go public.

 He becomes more vulnerable and the case for keeping him and, even  more, continue to worship him, becomes weaker.
