IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE STARS - AN ACCOUNT OF LIVES IMPACTED BY 'EVERYDAY ADVERSITIES.' PART 42.

'What we recall of our experiences of the past, tends to be a factor of how they impacted on our senses at the time, the strength of our continuing attachment to those experiences.

And the extent to which we have succeeded in assimilating them into our subsequent experiences and move on with our lives.'

That was now their major concern. Not so much that of how they could, would be able to hide the event of his imprisonment from the neighbours, their friends and work colleagues.

Or how they would manage to cope with their 'shame' for so many years.

Kazaliwa's long sentence might, unbeknown to his family, be the beginning of his long journey back from the valley of despair and deprivation.

But now, that was not evidently so to his parents, and it was probably not evident to him either.

Yes, they could go to sleep in their beds now knowing that they are free of the anxieties they had when they hear any sirens blaring, as they have come to associate it with their son being in trouble.

They now know that he will be 'secure' in HM prison, but they still have this new anxiety of not knowing, fearing how safe he would be. They would not be there to help Kazaliwa.

The prison system is primarily about securely incarcerating and punishing its reluctant inhabitants. It is not so much about keeping them safe and trying to rehabilitating them.

To be continued!
