How interesting and crucial is this feeling of 'sensitivity', and how important it is that we should learn to navigate, mediate and regulate.  

If we are to be able to cope, to make adaptations and get on with daily life? 

Even if it has to be be changed, however drastically, before it is accommodated and accepted as 'the new normal'?

Indeed, if we allow ourselves to make the necessary changes, as it were, we can even find, after awhile, that our id appears to give our conscious state the permission to remove our moral guard and to even begin to enjoy aspects of this 'alien interaction.' 

To see it, at least while we are participating in it, from the inside and not the outside. 

Yes, we are playing different roles from the inmates or residents and the prison guards and other officials, but we are still playing roles. 

The roles of families and friends of the inmates of the prison. Valuable roles which impacts on the work and function of the prison.

The moral of this conundrum could be this: If one is unfortunate enough to find oneself in a terrible situation, the difficult but best way to deal with it is to try to get to a point where you do not spend all your time consciously fighting against it.
