It was not an embrace denoting separation, but an embrace of welcoming home of the prodigal son. 

With an unspoken acknowledgement that a very unhappy phase in their, the family's life, has now ended. 

Now was to be the start of not entirely a new beginning, since that is now possible. 

But the beginning of a new phase or stage in Kazaliwa's life. In their, the family's life. 

They were all aware of the Sword of Dimocles' hanging over Kazaliwa's life, and, in turn, their own.
