What we recall of our experiences of the past, tends to be a factor of how they impacted on our senses at the time, the strength of our continuing attachment to those experiences.  

And the extent to which we have succeeded in assimilating them into our subsequent experiences and move on with our lives.'


But now was not a time for mourning, for tears. 

Unless they were to be tears of joy.  Of relief from the invisible but very heavy burden that Mfanyazaki and Nzuri had been carrying around with them for the past 4 or so years.

Now was a time for rejoicing, quietly, and savouring the family's good fortune. 

Nzuri, being a believer, a person who is given to praying privately at home and at her local church. 

Would doubtlessly be thanking God for having blessed her and acknowledging her relentless prayers.  

By returning her son, apparently safely, to her, after so many fear and worry filled years.



So, into the family's large living room all 3 of them went, and sat down. It was over 4 years since Kazaliwa had sat in this room with his parents. 

At that time his relationship with them was still very volatile and difficult. Kazaliwa had, by then, largely been off the drugs that were destroying his life. 

He had been clawing himself back to some kind of normality, but like anybody else recovering from an addiction, he was still very vulnerable. 

It could have gone either way. He was still in need of good support. He needed good and supportive routines.
