JUST PHILOSOPHISING ON - SOCIAL WORK AND THE ADOPTION DILEMMA. PART 5.

Of course there are going to be times when a given and or available placement is not going to be the exceptional one that just happens to be able to meet all the most appropriate and desirable needs of the child or young person.

It is therefore to be expected that the practitioners involved in planning and making the placement will have to prioritise which are the most crucial needs to be met.

Of course, planning for a child or young person does not require all his/her needs to be met from day one, as it were.

So, a more flexible approach could sometimes be adopted in planning what are future needs, and what preparation could be made for meeting them in the future.

As the child develops and their adoptive family have access to other needs-meeting options, such a moving from infant to primary school, the family moving etc.

From a personal and societal perspective, it is or can be a very challenging task caring for and rearing children.

How challenging it actually is, is likely to be influenced by the level of relevant knowledge, experience and temperament of the child's carers.

As well as the effectiveness of their familial, social and formal network systems.

An additional factor can be that of whether the children you are caring for, are biologically yours, or whether they the birth children of other people.

There seems to be a perception amongst the media and some members of the public that local authorities are never on the ball, and that whenever there is a tragedy involving children.

It must be because of something the relevant local authority/ies have done or not done.
