AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 143.

More anticipation of her, my dear mother, only making it to the edge of her bed, and, with legs that are no longer robust, knee and ankle joints which have been worn down with age and seemingly over-use, and now no longer dependable, generating too much pain. 

She risks sliding off her bed and not being able to make it back on her feet, and her bed; on her own.

However, this, like the journey we all must travel between the proverbial 'Sunrise and Sunset', is one which can only be terminated in the demise of my dear mother. 

As I watch her slow down in her cognitive processes, in her speech, in her motility and in her mobility, I find myself pondering the question: ' how and when will my dear mother end her journey?

This, at present, is not a question I am able to give an accurate answer to. 




How can I, when my dear mother is still able to surprise me by seemingly at will, make her own way to her bathroom without her walking frame, even though it is almost painful, definitely poignant observing her fragility as she shakily makes her way? 

When she is still able to use her commode on her own, and sort herself out as best she is able to?

But probably the most poignant evidence of my dear mother's decline, is her increasingly noticeable inability to find and put appropriate words together to answer or ask questions. 

And to initiate conversation and communicate in a coherent and comprehensible manner. 

Quite simply, my dear mother seems to have lost most of her ability to communicate verbally, and has now taken to do so mostly by way of physical gestures and one or a few words.

Diplomacy ought to be the process by which nations, through their governments, establish and maintain mutually beneficial and peaceful relationships between them; Diplomacy is not, like the Gulf Cooperation Council members and their allies, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE states, trying to bully and intimidate Qatar into doing their bidding, by surrendering its sovereignty.  Neither is diplomacy what the American government is doing, in using sanctions to force the governments of states of Iran, Russia and North Korea, into complying with its demands.  About what action they should or should not take in pursuing what they consider to be in the interest of their countries and people.  No, none of this is diplomacy. Rather it is method of force and compulsion, which is not synonymous with principle or practice of diplomacy.  Which is about the art of establishing and maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships between different countries.
