THE THE PHYSICAL END OF AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 151.

 

And while all of this is slowing being done, and the dead are being registered on the basis of 'first died, first registered', so must my dear mother do her bit and remain in the queue of the dead. 

Just as well that the dead, as far as us the living are able to ascertain, are no longer able to be cognisant of their or their bodies' predicament. 

That they are no longer able to perceive that their temporary, though for us, the living, seemingly overdue tenancy in a mortuary, as they await, as it were, their final or near permanent place of rest. 

Oh that my dear mother, like others in her position, should have to contend, or not, with what seems to me, an indignity. 

One which I can only but hope, will not be too drawn out, as the queue in front of her diminishes, and gives way to her turn.   

Today is the second week since my son and I have had the experience of witnessing the passing of my dear mother, and his dear grandmother's passing. 

And yes, as I write this post, I can recall how both of us, quietly and solemnly held her hands and watched her quietly inhaling and exhaling. 

How she made no vocal sounds in her passing moments, even as her grandson reassuringly commented to her, "it is alright, Mama", and how he shed some tears, as we noticed that she had exhaled for the final time.

How will my son 'handle' this poignant event, I might have asked myself, as all three of, two knowingly, shared those most poignant of moments.
