THE THE PHYSICAL ENDING OF AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 159.

 

The eulogy by A was simply brilliant, reflective and evocative of the time she shared with and remembered of her 'Mama.  While the poem by R was similarly very thoughtful, accomplished and engaging.

With others from another granddaughter, and one of Mama's daughter-in-law. And finishing with a well-constructed semi-colloquial piece from one of my dear mother's surviving sons.

But it was not all plain-sailing or euphoric, as the painfully scripted and badly timed and delivered 'tribute' from one of my dear mother's relative.  

Would have caused many, if not the congregation to feel a collective sense of discomfort, and probably held their breathe. Not now; not now. 

Not at Mama's funeral and not in the public's gaze, because, what can you expect to benefit from saying such things, from baring your pain in public, unless you seek to dishonour our dear mother?

All of the different strands of the service was weaved together by the excellent management of the Revd. P, who would use her beautiful singing voice to give it maximum effect.

Having endured the not unusual over-running of the allocated time for the service, albeit, not by much.  

We all exited the church in the traditionally calm and solemn manner, with the pall-bears comprising myself and other relatives at both sides of Mama's coffin leading the way. 

Having exited the church and placed the coffin into the expert hands of the professional pall-bears, who carefully placed it in the hearse for the journey to the cemetery. 

Where my dear mother would join, as it were, members of her family who had, in their younger years, preceded her in entering eternity. 

It was now time for me and members of my family to make our way to said cemetery for the internment of dear mother.
