JUST PHILOSOPHING ON : SOME OF WHAT I HAVE LEARNT FROM LIFE! PART 2.

 

So, what have I learned from observing life? Well, beginning with when I was a young child, what I have observed was that, for a child, the world is and/or can be a very frightening and fearful place. 

Both in mind and on the physical level. Thus was the world full of duppies, rolling calves, spirits, demons. monsters of all kinds, depending on where in the world you happen to be born and grown up. 

And then, as if that is not bad enough, according to the religion you are born prisoner to, you also have to ponder Hell and hell-fire or everlasting boredom and torture in Heaven, when you depart the world.

I have learnt that, as a child, demons, monsters and frightening entities do really exist, and they do in every society and culture. 

It does not matter that, when considered rationally, these frightening creatures are or might be mostly mental constructs which have been past on from generation to generation. 

For young children living in external environments, in cultures which reinforces these fearful creatures, they are real and powerful. 

They are powerful and become a significant part of the worldview, the weltanschuung, to children who have assimilated them. 

And their power and influence can only be broken or diluted by the child's exposure to other worldviews, and to the extent and depth to which this exposure occurs.

And what about that period of branching away from the safety and/or familiarity of being at home with the ones family, to the alien and rough and tough, if orderly and regimented state of school attendance? 

What are some of the things which I have experienced? Well, being at home with ones family, it seems to me that one of the main challenge and aspiration of a child.  

Is that of competing for and achieving his/her parents, especially the mother's attention and preference above ones siblings.
