JUST PHILOSOPHISING ON - THE IMPOVERISHMENT OF BEING ONLY ABLE TO LIVE A 'ONE-DIMENSIONAL LIFE'! PART 1.

 

So, how do we humans live best, most abundantly? Is it by living a one dimensional life, or striving, endeavouring to live multi-dimensional lives?

It seems to me that a person lives best by endeavouring to live multi-dimensional lives. 

To vary what we do, how and when we do it. To become a good generalist, instead of toiling to become an acclaimed specialist, which is not to say one should never seek to become a specialist. 

Although we should be mindful of the likely fate of, say another species of animal that evolves being dependent on only one kind of food, should that habitat becomes extinct.

As I sit her doing this post, and listening to the soothing, calm and reflection inducing music of Classical musicians such as Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, Bach, et al. 

I find that I am asking myself, 'supposed I had not had the pleasure of hearing the beautiful and powerful music of these musicians? Would I not have been musically-impoverished? 

Supposed my diet of music had been limited to that of only the reggae genre, or the soul genre, of the country and western genre, of the pop genre, or the jazz genre, or the cajun genre.  

Or the Mongolian throat singing genre, or the Maasai rhythms, or Yoruba music, et al. 

Would I have had the range and depth of musical and spiritual experiences I have had and is able to have, by virtue of the fact of varied experience of music I have so far experienced? 

I think not. Music does not only give rise to our emotions and feelings, but, depending on the kind of music, it can have a therapeutic impact on us. 

It can also help to transform our emotions.  From sadness to joy, from anger to calmness, and vice versa and much more.
