So, also, do we no longer hear our leaders, our politicians speaking of endeavouring to establish peace with Russia, ever.  But only of defeating it militarily, economically, politically, morally, and, of, course, building a Nato enforced Iron Curtain around it. It was only a matter of a few months ago, say probably the beginning of 2022, when we knew where we stand.  We had a certain amount of security about what is likely to happen and what is unlikely to happen.  We could predict that, though bad things could happen, they were unlikely to happen.  Why? Because we, us humans, have come to believe that we have achieved and were living in 'the Age of Reason.'  That we have become rational and enlightened humans. That we would not 'destroy our world in order to save it.'  That pyrrhic act is not one which is popular amongst our species.  We believed that the time when the guardians of 'western democracy, liberalism and much vaunted  civilization' would terrify the people of the West with the then dreaded refrain - "the Russians are Coming", had long been put to rest for the past 3 or so decades. President Putin had expected to wage a 'Blitzkrieg War', probably even a so-called 'surgical strike or 'Special Operations' invasion against Ukraine.  He had anticipated that the tremendous might of the Russian armed forces partly surrounding Ukraine would have resulted in the quick capitulation of the Ukrainian state, with minimal death and destruction.  But that did not occur, as is often the unpredictable way of wars.  Instead, the Ukrainians, similar to how Russian patriots fought against Hitler's armies invading Russian during the WW2.   This state of altered reality demands that people should dramatically and suddenly replace their/our perception of what is 'normal and reasonable behaviour', with the 'abnormal behaviour' which the war has given rise to.  That, as many ordinary people and health professionals know, cannot be accomplished without major traumas; pretty much reflecting the physical destruction being wrought on Ukraine and Russia.
