HUMANS AS SPIRITUAL BEINGS?!

S
o, what do I mean, when I speak of 'humans as spiritual beings'? Do I mean that humans can manifest themselves as a spiritual, non-mass entity, which, although not being physical, have human features, such as what we humans have come to know as a head, ears, nose, mouth, arms, trunk, torso and legs?  I suspect that when we speak of humans being transformed into spiritual beings, in order to be able to 'live forever', we probably imagine such spiritual entities to look like us, since we want to retain as much of 'our perceived selves' as possible.  We want to remain 'who we are', such as our relationships with dear ones, our families, our close friends, and so forth. After all, how else could we maintain our continuity, if, for those of us who believe in 'life after death',  'we' were to be so radically - except for the physical self - that the consciousness of 'self' were to be lost, or consigned to the 'unconscious world'?

I
nteresting topic, but, for the purpose of this post, when I speak of humans as spiritual beings, I am not referring to humans as having a separate and mutually exclusive reality outside of their physical bodies.  I am referring to humans as having the power, through their thought processes, to project their 'minds' to different places, time and virtual worlds, to enrich their lives. It is arguably the case that this 'spiritual being' within us, needs a state of consciousness to give it life and enable us to become more fully aware of and make sense of it. It can only be fully realised in a state of 'ergo sumness.'

A
s I see it, the spiritual being within humans consists of our emotional, empathic, reflective and contemplative abilities. We are 'spiritual beings' in our capacity to project our thoughts and feelings onto others, and in our belief that they are also able to project theirs onto us, and our receptiveness to such projections or transferences. This 'spiritual' side of us allows us to contemplate the kind of person we want to share our lives with, and, if you will, 'imagine' or 'mentally rehearse' what our lives would be with them. One of the most vivid realization of this 'spiritual being' emanating from us, is probably our rem (rapid eye movement) dreams, when our sleeping bodies become observer of and the actor  in the mysterious exploits of our minds.

T
hrough our 'spiritual being', we are able to 'put ourselves' into the 'spiritual world' of our loves ones, our partners, our children, our siblings, and others, and vicariously 'experience' their pain, their fears, their happiness, and their joy. Our 'spiritual being' or 'life' is also probably where we do most of our emotional and psychological pain - either or both for ourselves and others - is manifested; often times, when we are alone of in a state of loneliness.

I
t is the place where we are tormented by the pain of the things which have been done and cannot be undo, or the things which should have been done but have not be done. The place where the only thing which can heal the pain we feel for ourselves and others, is time, but where time, at least initially, crawls along slowly, sometimes almost imperceptibly, and seems to sadistically taunts us with the fact that we must remain exposed to the cause of our torment.

T
he 'spiritual being' of which I speak, is that little non-verbalised but powerful voice within our consciousness which we use to reflect on, review  and regret or delight in the things which we have done or have not done, and contemplate on the things we plan, intend, or aspire to do in the near or distant future. This 'spiritual being' is what helps us to establish a rapport and friendship - or hostility born of fear or some hostile action - with people we have not met or know before. It is also the entity which we use to begin to 'build a picture' of someone we have heard of but have never seen, even though that 'picture' might prove to be wide of the mark.

T
his 'spiritual being' is, I believe, the medium through which we, as humans, are able emotionally, empathically and socially engage and interact with other humans, and/our other animals with which we are able to communicate.  It is the medium by which, more than our physical expression of ourselves, I believe we are able to realise and express our common humanness; our 'ergo sumness', as it were.

A

nd, it is my belief and opinion, it has nothing to do with 'life after death' or the concept of sentient human consciousness continuing beyond the physical death of their bodies.
