JUST PHILOSOPHISING - 'THE LIBERATION OF MOSUL! THE 'VICTORY' WHICH ALSO SPEAKS OF DEFEAT. THE END!

And now, as has been the tendency with the disingenuous preoccupation of the West with 'liberating' perceived oppressed peoples and giving them 'freedom and democracy.'

The citizens of Mosul City are now 'free', but they have also been freed of the City, of their houses, lands, and livelihoods.

What they now have is a destroyed city, and the question is this: who will rebuild the City of Mosul? Who will rule what has been left of this once renown and estimable City?

Will it the new City be one of peaceful coexistence between its residents, or will it, again, become a conflicted City?

With Sunni fighting against Shia, and Sunni and Shia fighting against Iraqi Kurds, as well as each against the others?

The government of Iraq will probably make commendable  pronouncement about the rebuilding of the COM.

But governments are about politics and power, and are known for oftentimes not fulfilling their promises.

To destroy is always easier than to build. It certainly will be a massive challenge. Because there are many other placed in Iraq which need rebuilding.

After the great destruction caused by the American invasion, and the subsequent war between the Iraq Armed forces and Daesh/ISIL and their supporters among some of the country's Sunni population.

For many of the citizens of these other areas, the question is likely to be that of, 'why should the people of the City of Mosul be given priority for rebuilding?

War, irrespective of how us humans endeavour to confer 'justification' on it, is still a tragic situation which requires us to take leave of our sanity, and suspend our civility, our humanity.

And to become brutal killers and destroyers of the commendable fruits of our labour.

There is no 'victory' in wars; just destruction of lives, property, livelihoods and the wounding of humanity.

And yet, conflicts and wars have become, it seems, 'a legitimated means' of humans achieving or trying to achieve our goals.

Irrespective of the fact that it perpetuates strife and divisions which can lead to more strife and conflict in the future.

Once the shooting and killing has began, it tends to be too late to stop the carnage and destruction.

Us humans just have make more strenuous efforts to prevent that stage being reached, as, if and when it is reached, it will inevitably destroy much more than any 'military victory' can ever achieve.'

Much of which, including the authenticity of  what has been destroyed, cannot be fully replaced.

This, however, should not become a cause for despair. It is what it is and is something which cannot be undone at this stage of the tragedy.

And now is the time for the government of Iraq and the people of  the City of Mosul, those who have remained and those who have left, to rejoin and redoubled their effort to rebuild the City.

Both its physical and material fabric, as well as its human and spiritual aspects.

This is their responsibility, and it is a cause which is more worthy than that of the madness which has led to its destruction!
