JUST A THOUGHT - ON POLAND HAVING PASSED A LAW TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO ACCUSE THE COUNTRY OF COMPLICITY IN THE HOLOCAUST

The people of Poland lost millions of their compatriots, including 3 million Polish Jews, during the Second World War.

Following the invasion of Poland by the Nazis, thousands of Poles left the country and joined the armies of other countries to fight against the Germans.

The Polish Government has now felt it necessary to pass a law making it illegal for Poles, at least to make statements. Declaring that the country was complicit in the Holocaust which the Nazis had perpetrated against the Jews they took to the Death Camps.

In effect, the Government of Poland is saying that, Poland, as a sovereign country and nation, was not a party to Hitler's and his Nazis' heinous crimes against the Jewish people of Europe.

Now, the current government of Poland is not know for its liberalism, for having a liberal approach to human rights issues. It is, for example, a Pis taker, to use a colloquialism, when it comes to women's rights issues, such as abortion.

Similarly, Poland's  nationalist Law and Justice Party is not known for showing any hospitality towards the numerous unfortunate refugees and migrants who have been and are currently knocking on Europe's doors.

The Polish government has not found it in its heart to show them any 'Christian charity or simple human hospitality. It wants them to pass on by, without entering Polish territory.

So, within the context of my philosophical and political leanings, I see little, if anything to commend the current Polish government for.

And yet, it does seem to me that this same government does have some merits. In taking the stand it has chosen to take regarding wanting to exorcise Poland, as a sovereign state, from any attributed complicity in the genocide against the Jewish people.

It seems to me that Poland's case does have some merits, as I have said.

After all, as far as I am aware, this was not a situation where Poland, as a state, became an ally, and a willing ally of Germany, in the war, and in carrying out the Holocaust.

It was a situation in which the German government, Hitler's government, was in unquestionable charge.

It was not even on the same basis as Mussolini's Italian government, which allied itself to Germany. And yet, who would accuse Italy of being complicity in the Holocaust?

Similarly, are not the nations of Europe as a whole, have some culpability for the catastrophe which has befallen the Jewish people of Europe during the Second World War?

Should the culpability of Poland be any greater, simply because the Nazis chose to set up some of the extermination complexes in Poland?

Are they really "Polish Concentration Camps", or were they 'German Concentration/Extermination Camps' set up in Poland, one of a number of countries which the German Army occupied during the WW2?

Consequently, the stand which the government of Poland is taking, is not an unreasonable or indefensible one.
